Telegram has published a message on its website clarifying some aspects regarding the principles of the Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain platform and the Gram cryptocurrency. The statement notes that the company will not be able to control the platform after its launch and will not have any other management rights over it.
It has become known that the TON Wallet cryptocurrency wallet will initially be a separate application. The developers do not guarantee that the wallet will be integrated with the company’s messenger in the future. This means that, at least in the early stages, the company will launch an independent cryptocurrency wallet that will compete with other similar solutions.
Another important point is that Telegram does not plan to develop the TON platform, expecting that this will be handled by a community of third-party developers. Telegram is not committed to developing applications for the TON platform nor establishing a TON Foundation or any similar organization in the future.
The Telegram development team will not be able to control the cryptocurrency platform in any way after its launch, nor do they guarantee that Gram token holders will profit from it. It is noted that purchasing cryptocurrency is a risky endeavor as its value can significantly fluctuate due to volatility and the actions of regulators regarding cryptocurrency exchanges. The company believes that Gram is not an investment product, positioning the cryptocurrency as a medium of exchange among users who will use the TON platform in the future.
The message states that Telegram still intends to launch the blockchain platform and cryptocurrency. This was supposed to happen in the fall of 2019, but the launch was postponed due to a lawsuit from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). It is worth noting that currently, the Gram cryptocurrency is not being sold, and sites that allegedly distribute tokens are fraudulent.
Let us recall, recently it was reported that the SEC filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court, demanding that Telegram disclose information about how the $1.7 billion raised through its ICO, intended for the development of TON and Gram, is being spent.
