Telegram users have discovered that the messenger has started displaying a warning in the profile of a contact about their use of an unofficial client. The note is accompanied by an explanation of the potential decrease in message security. The service did not publicly announce the launch of this feature. At the same time, Telegram did not clarify whether the labeling applies to all third-party applications without exception or just to some of these clients.
The preparation of the new feature became known as early as the end of March 2026, when a new wording for the warning about unofficial clients was found in the translation strings of the official Telegram for iOS. Following this, specialized publications reported that the feature was undergoing testing within the official application.
The Telegram Info editorial staff suggested that the reason for concern was the growing popularity of the application "Telega" and publications about its features. According to this data, the service substitutes addresses data centers Telegram with its own servers and uses an additional RSA key that is not present in the official application.
"Telega" was released by the Russian company "Dal", which was later renamed to "Telega". The application operates on the basis of Telegram's open-source code, externally replicating the messenger and offering additional features, including a Wall and an aggregator for publications from channels that the user is subscribed to.
