On May 17, the 59th release of the browser took place. Thorium, based on the source code of Chromium 124.0.6367.218.
Key Changes:
- Audio support for AC3/E-AC3 format has been restored;
- WebRTC can now use H.265/HEVC codecs. Unlike Chromium, this feature is available in Thorium even without hardware decoding;
- a patch has been applied to protect against digital fingerprinting;
- a flag has been added chrome://flags#side-panel-journeys to enable/disable Journeys in the sidebar, which can be annoying;
- a flag has been added show-component-extension-options to toggle the display of built-in internal extensions that are typically hidden;
- the sidebar setting now works even if the flag is disabled chrome-refresh-2023;
- added a command line flag —disable-thorium-dns-config to disable the DNS configuration used in Thorium (by default, two patches are used to make DNS requests more private and to use DNS over HTTPS (DoH));
- FTP support has been restored;
- a vulnerability has been fixed CVE-2024-4671.
The browser is available for download in deb, rpm, AppImage, and zip formats in several variations – optimized for different processors (SSE3, SSE4, AVX, AVX2).
