The third installer candidate for the next significant release of Debian — 'Bullseye' — has been published. Currently, there are 48 critical bugs blocking the release (it was 155 a month ago, 185 two months ago, 240 three months ago, 472 four months ago, at the moment of the freeze in Debian 10 — 316, Debian 9 — 275, Debian 8 — 350, Debian 7 — 650). The release is scheduled for August 14.
Key changes in the installer compared to the second release candidate:
- Actions have been documented that may help in case of boot failures (e.g., black screen), and information on using isenkram to identify missing firmware and troubleshoot related issues has been added.
- Non-free installation images, which include firmware packages, are improved to assess the need for additional firmware for installed systems (such as firmware for AMD and Intel graphics cards or Intel sound cards). Support for installing additional firmware packages in hw-detect has been added if items in the udev database include modalias patterns with DEP-11 metadata.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.10.0-8.
- The pwm-rockchip module has been added to udeb fb-modules, the mdio-aspeed module to nic-modules, and the fusb302, tcpm, and typec modules to usb-modules.
- Issues with network connection detection on i.MX6 boards have been resolved.
