American company Triton Submarines the tourist submarine DeepView 24, which allows tourists to dive to a depth of 100 meters and enjoy panoramic views of the sea and ocean floor. Water enthusiasts can observe underwater inhabitants within a large transparent tube tall enough to stand upright.
The submarine is equipped with air conditioning and accommodates 24 passengers and two pilots. The length of the submarine is 15.4 meters, and its weight is 55,000 kilograms. The device regulates depth using a primary 4,000-kilogram ballast and an additional 1,800-kilogram ballast. For propulsion, it uses two main engines with a power of 27 horsepower and four auxiliary Vertran engines with a power of 17 horsepower each.
The submarine is powered by a relatively inexpensive lead-acid battery because the device does not require much energy. Additionally, safety was important for the company, so the use of lithium-ion batteries was undesirable due to . Avoiding lithium-ion batteries allowed the company to reduce the cost of the submarine. The battery provides enough energy for 14 hours of underwater tourism at a speed of about 5.5 km/h.
After diving to great depths, the pilots can illuminate the surrounding area with ten LED lights with a total output of 20,000 lumens. Operating the submarine is made as simple as possible, so the pilots only use a touchscreen display and a controller. In case of problems, pilots can take control of the submarine's internal systems.
The submarine DeepView 24 is designed for the Vietnamese resort and amusement park network Vinpearl. Tourists will be able to dive underwater as early as December 2020, near the Vietnamese island of Hon Tre. In addition to the presented DeepView 24 unit, Triton plans to release modifications that accommodate between 12 and 66 passengers.
