It seems that Uber is doing better than ever. Yesterday, the American company set its stock price range between $44 and $50 per share, according to updated information from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Uber plans to offer 180 million shares and raise about $9 billion during its IPO.
Uber will list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange using the ticker symbol UBER. Trading may begin as early as this May.
In its statement, the company mentioned that Uber operates in 63 countries and over 700 cities across six continents. More than 91 million people use at least one of its services, which include ride-hailing, food delivery, and the rental of electric bikes and scooters. Uber drivers conduct around 14 million rides every day.
Overall, if everything goes according to plan, 2019 will be quite remarkable due to the IPOs of several major tech companies. Alongside Uber, IPOs are expected from companies in San Francisco such as Airbnb, Pinterest, and Slack. Uber's main competitor, Lyft, successfully debuted in the stock market back in March of this year, but later saw a significant decline in its stock prices. On Friday, Lyft shares were trading at $56, which is much lower than their IPO price of $72.
At the same time, PayPal announced that it is investing $500 million in Uber as part of the expansion of a partnership that has been in place since 2013. As part of this collaboration, PayPal will work on developing an electronic wallet for Uber's services.
“This is another important milestone in our journey to partner with various platforms to help grow global commerce by connecting leading marketplaces and payment networks,” wrote PayPal CEO Dan Schulman in his LinkedIn.
