The UBports team has released an update to their mobile operating system — UBports 16.04 OTA-12.
Ubuntu Touch is the UBports mobile operating system that ensures privacy and freedom. UBports OTA-12 is available immediately for many supported Ubuntu Touch devices.
New Features:
- The main feature of this new version is the import of the latest changes from Canonical into Unity 8. This transition began in April 2019 and brought many new features.
- If you are an Ubuntu Touch user, you will see the effects of the updates right away — the 'home screen' of Ubuntu Touch, Unity8 Dash, has now been replaced with a blank background and a pull-out drawer as the new app list.
- The new version of Unity 8 performs extensive self-checks, helping users avoid new bugs or the reappearance of old ones.
- Unity 8 is now called Lomiri, although the name change is happening slowly.
- Most importantly, the update transitions Mir from version 0.24, released in 2015, to Mir 1.2, released in 2019. The new version of Mir supports Wayland clients.
