Canonical has released the first corrective update for the Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS distribution, which includes updates for several hundred packages related to fixing vulnerabilities and issues affecting stability. This new version also addresses bugs in the installer and bootloader. The release of Ubuntu 26.04.1 marks the completion of the basic stabilization of the LTS release — users of the previous LTS branch Ubuntu 24.04 will now be prompted to upgrade to the 26.04 branch.
Similar updates for Kubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Budgie 26.04.1 LTS, Lubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Kylin 26.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Studio 26.04.1 LTS, Xubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, Edubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, and Ubuntu Cinnamon 26.04.1 LTS have been released simultaneously. It makes sense to use the provided builds only for new installations — previously installed configurations of Ubuntu 26.04 will receive all changes present in Ubuntu 26.04.1 through the standard update installation system. Support for updates and security fixes for the server and desktop editions of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS will continue until April 2031 (plus an additional 10 years for users of the Ubuntu Pro service).
Changes in the new release include updates to new corrective versions of the packages GTK 4.22.4, LibreOffice 26.2.5, snapd 2.76.1, NVIDIA 580.159.03 and 595.71.05, libadwaita 1.9.1, AppArmor 5.0.2, at-spi2-core 2.60.4, GDM 50.1, nautilus 50.2.2, gnome-control-center 50.3, gnome-remote-desktop 50.2, gnome-session 50.1, papers 50.2, orca 50.2. A driver for egis_etu905 fingerprint scanners has been added. Support for the ALC4080 audio codec used in the NVIDIA GB300 platform has been ensured. Firmware files for Cypress 43439 Wi-Fi chips have been added. Additional firmware for components of Lenovo (Cirrus Amps) and Dell (Cirrus CS35L56) laptops has been added. Support for DeepComputing FML13V05 and SpacemiT K3 CoM260 IFX boards, as well as new models of Elan and Synaptic touchpads, has been included.
The integration of the new version of the Linux kernel, drivers, components of the graphics stack, and the virtualization stack is expected in the planned February release of Ubuntu 26.04.2, as these components will be imported from the Ubuntu 26.10 release, which will only be ready in the fall and will require additional time for testing. Among other things, unlike previous LTS branches, updates for the packages qemu-hwe (hypervisor and emulator), libvirt-hwe (virtualization management toolkit), edk2-hwe (OVMF firmware), and seabios-hwe (for BIOS compatibility) will be transferred to Ubuntu 26.04.2.
