Ubuntu Developers about their intention to stop providing deb packages of the Chromium browser in favor of distributing self-contained images in snap format. Starting from Chromium 60, users are already given the option to install Chromium from both the standard repository and in snap format. In Ubuntu 19.10, the delivery of Chromium will be limited to the snap format only.
For users of previous versions of Ubuntu, the delivery of deb packages will continue for some time, but eventually, only snap packages will be available for them as well. A transparent transition process to snap will be provided for users of deb packages with Chromium via the release of a final update that will install the snap package and transfer current settings from the $HOME/.config/chromium directory.
