Disk Cleanup has been a part of all versions of Windows, serving as a useful tool integrated into the OS. It allows users to delete temporary files, old, and cached data without resorting to manual cleaning or third-party applications. However, Windows 10 introduced a more modern version called Storage Sense, which tackles this task more flexibly. It complements Disk Cleanup.
Storage Sense was introduced in build 1809, but in the current Insider version, the utility has undergone some important changes. The previous version of Storage Sense could remove files from the Downloads folder. In build 19018, the option to disable cleaning of the Downloads folder has been made available at the user's discretion, which is set as the default in the settings.
The change log confirms this. While at first glance it seems like a minor improvement, it's gratifying to see that the company from Redmond is striving to consider user feedback. One can hope that the corporation will similarly address other requests. For instance, updates for the File Explorer would be welcomed.
It is noteworthy that the next update, codenamed 19H2, will be rolled out to consumers on November 12, while the patch numbered 20H1 will become available early next year.
