Following the transition to using HTTPS by default in the address bar of the Chrome browser, a setting has been added that enforces the use of HTTPS for all website requests, including direct link transitions. When this new mode is activated, if a page is attempted to be opened with "http://", the browser will first automatically attempt to open the resource via "https://". If that attempt fails, it will display a warning suggesting to open the site without encryption. Last year, a similar functionality was added in Firefox 83.
To activate the new feature in Chrome, it is necessary to enable the flag "chrome://flags/#https-only-mode-setting", after which a toggle labeled "Always use secure connections" will appear in the settings section under "Settings > Privacy and Security > Security". The functionality required for this feature has been added to the experimental branch Chrome Canary and is available starting from build 93.0.4558.0.
