The FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), responsible for the technical development of the Fedora Linux distribution, has approved the creation of official ISO images with a graphical environment based on the Miracle compositor, which uses the Wayland protocol and components for building Mir compositors. The Fedora spin edition with Miracle will start shipping with the release of Fedora Linux 41.
The goal of creating the new build is to develop a functional and elegant user environment with a tiling window layout inspired by the i3 window manager, along with more vibrant graphics and visual effects. A key advantage of this new Fedora build is the emergence of a high-quality environment based on Wayland, which can be utilized across a wide range of devices, including low-power devices with ARM and x86 architecture processors.
