Fedora intends to use the nano text editor by default instead of vi.

Planned for implementation in Fedora 33. is scheduled change, transitioning the distribution to use the text editor nano by default. Currently, Fedora does not set the $EDITOR environment variable, and by default in commands like 'git commit', vi is called.

Additionally, the development of the experimental editor Onivim 2, which combines the performance of Sublime, the integration capabilities of VSCode, and the modal editing methods of Vim, is noteworthy. The editor offers a modern user interface, supports VSCode plugins, and works on Linux, macOS, and Windows. The project is written in the language Reason (which uses OCaml syntax for JavaScript) and the Revery GUI framework. For working with buffers and organizing editing, libvim is used. The project develops under a unique license — after 18 months, the code becomes available under the MIT license, while prior to that it is distributed under an EULA that imposes restrictions on commercial use.The release of Perl 7 has been announced.
