Mozilla representatives announced that the new version of the Firefox browser will feature additional security tools to protect users from hidden cryptocurrency miners and online activity trackers.
The development of new protective measures was done in collaboration with experts from Disconnect, who created a solution for blocking online trackers. Additionally, Firefox uses an ad blocker from Disconnect. Currently, the previously mentioned features are integrated into Firefox Nightly 68 and Firefox Beta 67.
The tracking protection tool prevents websites from collecting data that forms a user's digital footprint. Moreover, the browser will hinder the collection of information regarding the version of the operating system used, location data, regional settings, and more, all of which can be used to display content that attracts user attention.
Hidden miners are often placed on web resource pages to use the computational power of the user's device for cryptocurrency mining. This reduces device performance and increases battery consumption, especially with mobile gadgets.
