In the nightly builds of Firefox, which will form the basis of the Firefox 134 release on January 7, testing has begun on a revamped address bar that includes a button for selecting a search engine, similar to the button in the menu for adding a separate search bar to the toolbar. In addition to the ability to quickly send a query to the desired search engine, the menu displayed when the new button is clicked also provides options to navigate to the history view, open tabs overview, or browse saved bookmarks.
In the dropdown menu that appears after focusing on an empty address bar, not only are recommended and previously opened pages displayed, but also a list of recently performed search queries, allowing for quick modifications or repetitions in another search engine. The dropdown menu also shows buttons for performing additional actions, such as printing the page or switching to another tab.
The ability to choose a search area is provided using control tags such as @bookmarks, @tabs, @history, and @actions. As soon as the character "@" is entered, a hint for available tags appears.
When opening sites via the HTTP protocol without encrypted communication channels, in addition to the icon with a crossed-out padlock, the text "Not Secure" is now displayed.
