Some schools in China have started testing "smart" headbands that help monitor children's attention in class.
The photo above shows a classroom in an elementary school in Hangzhou (Zhejiang Province). The students are wearing a device called Focus 1, developed by the Boston startup BrainCo Inc. Specialists from Harvard University's Brain Research Center also contributed to the development of this wearable device.
The Focus 1 wearable device uses electroencephalographic (EEG) sensors to measure attention. Teachers can monitor students' attention levels on a dashboard, identifying which students have lost focus. The indicators can also reveal if any student is slacking off.
