On September 27, the Document Foundation announced Document Foundation that the second corrective update of LibreOffice 24.8 includes fixes for over eighty bugs, crashes, and regressions.
LibreOffice – a free office suite continuing the development of OpenOffice.org, which includes the word processor Writer, spreadsheet Calc, presentation editor Impress, and database management system Base. Compared to OOo, it offers improved support for Microsoft Office formats, numerous enhancements, and is continuously updated. LibreOffice provides a flexible user interface with extensive customization options. For instance, both traditional nested menus like File / Edit / View / … and a ‘ribbon’ interface in the style of modern Microsoft Office are available. LibreOffice is a cross-platform solution, supporting GNU/Linux and other Unix-like systems, as well as Android, Haiku, and Windows (notably, support for Windows 7 SP1 continues despite reaching EOL).
The project has adopted a free license MPL 2.0. Opened git repository LibreOffice.
The community version of the suite is available for all to use; free support is provided via ask.libreoffice.org. Support is also available as part of the enterprise version for businesses.
Key changes common to the 24.8 branch include: disabling export to personal data files to preserve user privacy; ODF encryption mode using a password; user interface improvements; enhanced support for floating tables over multiple pages, and and much more.
The 24.8 branch will be supported until June 12, 2025. The next minor release is scheduled for November this year.
