Last year, Microsoft introduced artificial intelligence in PowerPoint. It was embedded in the Ideas tool to enhance presentations. Now, the company Ideas for Microsoft Word, offering suggestions to improve text.
Unlike the traditional spell-checking and grammar correction systems, the Ideas system works differently. It will analyze the text, the words used, their length, and the estimated time to read the document. The service will also suggest synonyms to enhance text readability. Microsoft discussed these changes at its Build 2019 developer conference in Seattle.
It is noted that text correction is not the only new function of this kind. Just recently, Office documents lacked automatic saving to OneDrive; this feature is now available. Additionally, when collaborating on text, you can request assistance from colleagues using '@'. If you write @username before a text fragment, the system will automatically send an email to that user with the text attached.
It has not yet been specified when the new feature will be available in the release, but it is likely that it will first appear in the online Office 365 service. There is currently no mention of its addition to local Office versions. This makes sense, considering that Microsoft is actively migrating all its applications and even its OS to cloud systems. From a business perspective, it’s more advantageous to receive regular payments and avoid piracy than to release applications for OS and lose money.
