DXVK now includes support for Direct3D 8

The DXVK layer, which provides an implementation of the Direct3D 9, 10, and 11 graphical APIs through call translation to the Vulkan API, has integrated developments from the D8VK project, which enables Direct3D 8 translation to the Vulkan API. All related developments for the D8VK project will now be conducted within the DXVK codebase, where D8VK is implemented as a backend for Direct3D 8. Compared to the WineD3D and d3d8to9 projects, which translate Direct3D 8 to OpenGL and Direct3D 9, the translation to the Vulkan API offers improved performance, stability, and compatibility with games.

For example, during testing in the 3DMark 2001 SE suite, the D8VK project scored 144660 points, while the d3d8to9+DXVK combination scored 118033, and WineD3D scored 97134. The developers have tested support for over 200 older games based on Direct3D 8, including GTA III, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Freelancer, Postal 2, Warcraft III, Another World 15, Need for Speed: High Stakes, Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, Red Faction II, Max Payne 2, Unreal II: The Awakening, and Silent Hill 3.
