Microsoft continues to release fresh updates for Edge on the Dev and Canary channels. The latest patch includes minor changes. Among them is a fix for an issue that could lead to high CPU usage while the browser is idle, along with a few other tweaks.
The most significant enhancement in Canary 76.0.168.0 and Dev Build 76.0.167.0 is the built-in translator, which will allow users to read text from any website in any supported language. A default dark mode has also been introduced, which, similar to Chrome, switches automatically when the theme changes in Windows or macOS.
Additionally, it is now possible to set the search engine directly from the address bar. That is, you can type the keyword Bing in the address bar, press a button, and search for information via Microsoft's proprietary service. A small feature, but a nice one.
It is claimed that keyword searching is available for all search engines that the user sets or that the system itself defines. Users can also add new search engines manually.
However, it should be noted that the 'developer' build is currently not recommended for updating. Reports indicate that the browser stops functioning correctly afterward. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is examining the bug reports, but it is unclear when a fix will be released. No such issues have been encountered with the Canary version.
Furthermore, the design for the dark mode is not particularly good in the current build. The company stated that updates will be made in the future and promised improvements soon.
