Before making the decision, tests were conducted on boot speeds of the kernel using the BZIP2, GZIP, LZ4, LZMA, LZMO, and XZ algorithms. BZIP2, LZMA, and XZ were immediately discarded due to slow unpacking. Of the remaining algorithms, the smallest image size was achieved with GZIP, but LZ4 unpacked data seven times faster than GZIP, lagging behind in size by 25%. LZMO fell short of GZIP in compression ratio by 16%, but was the fastest in unpacking with a speed increase of 1.25 times.
