Engineers at Canonical are working to add support for the 64-bit Sipeed LicheeRV board, which uses the RISC-V architecture, in the upcoming release of Ubuntu 22.10. At the end of August, support was also announced for RISC-V boards Allwinner Nezha and StarFive VisionFive in Ubuntu, available for purchase at prices of $112 and $179. The Sipeed LicheeRV board is notable for its price of just $16.90 and its availability on AliExpress, making it quite accessible for getting acquainted with the RISC-V architecture.
The Sipeed LicheeRV board is based on the Allwinner D1 SoC, featuring a single-core XuanTie C906 CPU (1.0GH), equipped with 512MB of RAM, a micro-SD card slot, USB Type-C OTG, SPI for connecting a display, and an M.2 B-KEY 64-pin interface with routing for HDMI, RGMII, RGB, MIPI-DSI, SDIO, and GPIO. Its primary application area is cited as the creation of Internet of Things devices.
