XLibre discusses support for Vulkan via X11

Enrico Weigelt, the lead developer of XLibre, has proposed the implementation of a Vulkan extension for X11 that would integrate network transparency at the X11 protocol level with low-latency interface rendering on the GPU. The proposal suggests creating an intermediate layer, libvulkan, which will handle the rendering of X protocol data through the GPU on the client side. This mechanism is proposed as an alternative to GLX and DRI.

The proposal is currently in the early discussion stage; Enrico hopes to clarify the community's need for this solution. The project is undergoing extensive refactoring aimed at eliminating intermediary layers of abstraction, the legacy of old C language standards, and related solutions with Wayland.
