Patches to speed up TCP have been accepted into Linux kernel 6.8.

The codebase forming the core of Linux 6.8 includes a set of changes that significantly enhance the performance of the TCP stack. In cases of handling numerous parallel TCP connections, the acceleration can reach up to 40%.

This improvement was made possible because the variables in the network stack structures (socks, netdev, netns, mibs) were arranged sequentially as they were added, which was determined by historical reasons. The revision of the variable layout in the structures aimed at improving efficiency in working with the processor cache (minimizing cache line usage during data transmission) and optimizing access to the variables led to a noticeable increase in TCP performance, especially in cases of a large number of simultaneous TCP connections.
