The eighth edition of the starter kits is ready on the Ninth Alt platform. These images are suitable for experienced users who prefer to determine their own list of applications and configure the system (up to creating their own derivatives) while starting to work with a stable repository. As composite works, they are distributed under the GPLv2+ license. Options include a basic system and one of the desktop environments or a set of specialized applications.
The builds are prepared for architectures i586, x86_64, aarch64, and armh. Builds for the mipsel architecture are also available in versions for Tavolga and BFK3 systems based on the "Baikal-T1" processor. Owners of Elbrus VK based on 4C and 8C/1C+ processors have access to a number of starter kits. Engineering variants on p9 have also been created — Live with engineering software and cnc-rt — Live with a real-time kernel and LinuxCNC software for x86_64.
Changes since the December release:
- Linux kernel std-def 5.4.104 and un-def 5.10.20; in cnc-rt — kernel-image-rt 4.19.160;
- Firefox ESR 78.8.0 (on aarch64 — Firefox 82);
- ISO images for x86_64 have become slightly smaller as copies of the kernel with initrd no longer fit in the ESP partition;
- ISO images for aarch64 now boot normally on systems with u-boot/efi;
- Live with session persistence works on booting via UEFI (x86_64, aarch64);
- The kde5 starter kit has reduced in size from 2 to 1.4 GB;
- The default kernel set in rootfs is un-def;
- Raspberry Pi: the audio issue on boot with un-def kernel has been fixed;
- Raspberry Pi 4: rootfs with un-def kernel loads successfully, operates stably, but hardware 3D acceleration does not work — use the build with the suffix -rpi with a special kernel for Raspberry Pi;
- mcom02: screen resolution changed from 1920×1080 to 1366×768 (set in /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf).

The images are built using mkimage-profiles 1.4.7 with a large set of patches; the ISO includes the archive of the build profile (.disk/profile.tgz) for the possibility of building your own derivatives (see also the builder option and the mkimage-profiles package within it).
The builds for aarch64 and armh include rootfs archives and qemu images in addition to ISO images; installation instructions and instructions for running in qemu are available for them.
Additionally, we note the availability of the fifth release candidate of the Alt Workstation K 9.1 distribution, as well as the betas of the Simply Linux 9.1 distribution.
