The defense industry company AerialX from Vancouver, Canada, specializing in the manufacturing of unmanned aerial vehicles, has developed the AerialX kamikaze drone, which aims to prevent terrorist acts using drones.
AerialX's CEO Noam Kenig describes the new device as a "hybrid of a missile and a quadcopter." Essentially, it is a kamikaze drone that resembles a miniature missile but possesses the maneuverability of a quadcopter. With a takeoff weight of 910 grams, this pocket missile has a range of 4 km and can reach speeds of up to 350 km/h when diving. The kamikaze drone is designed to intercept enemy unmanned aerial vehicles and pursue them for destruction.
Kenig stated that the company started by developing conventional drones, but at some point, it became evident that the market for such unmanned vehicles was saturated. After that, AerialX shifted focus to creating other technologies for the drone market.
In particular, a toolkit was developed for analyzing incidents involving drones, which allows for the reconstruction of damaged drones and analysis of flight data and crash causes. The company is also working on developing drone detection systems.
The DroneBullet drone is launched manually. All the operator needs to do for deployment is to identify a target in the sky.
Integrated into the relatively small body of the DroneBullet are a camera and various components based on neural networks, enabling it to independently perform the necessary calculations to determine the optimal flight trajectory required to hit the target.
According to Kenig, the kamikaze drone autonomously decides the moment and point of attack. If the target is a small drone, the strike will come from below. If the target is a larger drone, the DroneBullet will attack from above, targeting the most vulnerable spot of the drone, usually where the GPS module and unprotected propellers are located.
