The PowerEdge T40 continues Dell's series of affordable, compact entry-level servers. Externally, it resembles a small 'tower' with distinct elements of Dell's signature design, looking more like a regular PC. Internally, however, it features a modest single-socket board designed for entry-level Intel Xeon E processors. 
Moreover, the Dell PowerEdge T40 is truly a product for business, not just a regular PC in a slightly unusual form factor. Some might argue that the differences are merely in the details, but these differences are indeed defining: support for ECC memory, out-of-band management, a wide range of PCI-E slots, designed for 24/7 operation, easy deployment, numerous additional security and diagnostic tools, and finally, corporate-level technical support.
