On April 21, 2026, Oracle announced the release of the new virtualization system VirtualBox 7.2.8.
Key Changes:
- Fixed an issue causing a 'Guru Meditation' with the code VERR_IEM_IPE_4. The problem occurred when the guest OS attempted to execute an incorrect hypercall instruction, but instead generated an exception #UD.
- Resolved an issue where the internal DNS server could become unavailable.
- Fixed a bug in Ubuntu 25.10 / Wayland that prevented the mouse cursor form from changing based on context.
- Resolved a critical crash during the shutdown of FreeBSD 16.0 when multiple devices were connected to the LSI Logic SAS controller.
Linux Host:
- Initial support for kernels 6.19 and 7.0 has been added.
- Support for guest system time accounting has been added.
Linux Host/Guest:
- Additional fixes for RHEL kernels 10.1 and 10.2.
- Support for UEK9 kernel for Oracle Linux 9 has been added.
- Improved the speed of the rcvboxdrv/rcvboxadd setup scripts and installation process.
Linux Guest Additions:
- The vboxvideo kernel module is deprecated for kernels 7.0 and newer. For systems with kernel 7.0+, it is recommended to use VMSVGA graphics or the module vboxvideo included in the distribution. Support for the module is maintained for older kernels.
- Fixed the non-working clipboard synchronization in the 'guest Wayland - host Windows' configuration.
- Fixed an issue where the last character was not copied to the Windows host clipboard from the Wayland guest system.
