Oracle has released the second beta version of VirtualBox 7.2 virtualization system. The release is expected in the summer. Builds of the second beta version of VirtualBox 7.2 are prepared for RHEL 8/9/10, Fedora 36/40, openSUSE 15.6, Ubuntu 20.04/22.04/24.04/24.10, Debian 11/12, macOS, and Windows. The project code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv2+ license.
Key changes compared to the first beta version:
- On systems using Windows Hyper-V as the virtualization engine, the manager of virtual machines has improved output regarding the capabilities of CPU x86_64 and ARM. Support for xsave/xrestore instructions has been added and x86_64-v3 command set extensions like AVX and AVX2 are utilized.
- The features for Nested Virtualization on Intel CPUs have been optimized.
- The graphical interface has improved settings pages. Keyboard LED management has been enhanced. The IO-APIC setting has been removed from the ARM VM settings.
- The address translator has been improved, enhancing the preservation of virtual machine settings and interaction with DNS servers, as well as streamlining the NAT-related code across various subsystems.
- Support for kernel 6.16 has been added to the host and guest add-ons for Linux.
- For guest systems using Windows on ARM, the WDDM graphics driver has been added and Shared Folder support has been implemented.
