The installer now features animated desktop previews, integration with Winboat, an updated website, and significant changes to the portable version.
The installer now displays animated preview images in GIF/WebP format in the 'Desktop Selection' section to showcase all available options. Currently, this feature is available for Plasma, GNOME, Niri, and COSMIC, allowing users to better understand what to expect before making their choice. Additionally, support for JPEG XL format has been added in the 'Desktop Selection' section to reduce image sizes. The list of desktops is sorted from simple and accessible options to more advanced ones, such as window managers. Cachy-Update is now enabled by default when installing GNOME and KDE. The microcode installation logic has been improved: the system now detects hardware and installs the appropriate microcode instead of installing both at once and then removing the unnecessary one. Error messages have also been improved when the EFI partition is too small.
CachyOS-Welcome now includes a button for easy installation and activation of Winboat for convenient work with Windows Docker virtual machines. Keyboard navigation support has been added.
Regarding the kernel, linux-cachyos now publishes releases with tags in a special Linux repository, moving away from the previous approach of using separate patches (0001-cachyos-base-all.patch). chwd has significantly reduced the size of initramfs for configurations with NVIDIA graphics cards. We also improved service performance for users in China with cachyos-rate-mirrors, which now rigorously checks mirrors before ranking them. In cachyos-settings, the wireless regulation domain is now automatically set according to the user's time zone. The website design has been revamped and improved to meet more modern standards.
As for fixes, we removed bcachefs from the filesystem list, as it now requires bcachefs-dkms. We also fixed encryption using LUKS2 and included the display manager 'ly'. In cachyos-settings, cachyos-bugreport.sh now hides the IP address, username, hostname, and MAC address.
