Following the release of the new version of OpenBSD this week, the NetBSD team has also launched a significant update in the form of NetBSD 9.1.
NetBSD 9.1 includes numerous enhancements, such as:
- NetBSD 9.1 features a new default X11 window manager and other desktop improvements.
- Improved touchpad and trackpoint behavior for Lenovo ThinkPad laptops.
- Increased framebuffer performance in the console.
- Fixes and other enhancements related to ZFS file system support. The BSD file system with journaled structure LFS has also seen stability improvements.
- Support for USB security keys in raw mode, which can then be used by applications such as Firefox.
- Support for hypervisor Xen 4.13, as well as ongoing improvements to the NVMM hypervisor.
- Extended support for hardware random number generators with hardware RNG on various Arm chips.
- The AQ driver now supports Aquantia 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters.
- Support for parallel disk encryption using the NetBSD CGD driver.
