A new significant release of the multi-protocol instant messaging client Miranda NG 0.96.1 has been published, continuing the development of the Miranda program. Among the supported protocols are Facebook, ICQ, IRC, Jabber/XMPP, SkypeWeb, Steam, Tox, Twitter, and VKontakte. The project code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv2 license. The program currently only supports Windows, but work has begun on implementing Linux support. Future plans also include the addition of new protocol support, including WhatsApp and Telegram.
Among the changes:
- The first results of porting to Linux have been presented — the mir_core kernel can now be built for Linux-based systems.
- The ability to hide group chats from the contacts list (like regular contacts) has been added.
- Support for building with Visual Studio 2022 has been included.
- The libraries BASS, BASSWMA, libcurl, libtox, PCRE, pthreads-win32 (pthreads4w), SQLite, and TinyXML2 have been updated.
- Support for the Discord protocol has been discontinued, as Discord Inc is making it extremely difficult to develop alternative implementations of the protocol and has blocked the accounts of Miranda NG developers.
- In the VKontakte protocol implementation, authorization (including two-factor) has been established, support for the 'Invisible' status has been added, and the ability to send voice messages has been ensured.
