On March 21, the audio player was released. Audacious 4.0.
Audacious is a player aimed at low resource consumption, a fork of BMP, and a successor to XMMS.
The new release uses by default Qt 5. GTK 2 remains an option for building, but all new features will be added to the Qt interface.
The WinAmp-like interface on Qt was not finished by the release and lacks features such as the Jump to Song window. Users of the WinAmp-like interface are recommended to use the GTK interface for now.
Improvements and changes:
- Clicking on the playlist column headers sorts the playlist.
- Dragging the playlist column headers changes the order of the columns.
- Volume and time step settings apply to the entire application.
- A new option to hide the playlist tabs has been added.
- Sorting the playlist by file path sorts folders after files.
- Additional MPRIS calls have been implemented for compatibility with KDE 5.16+.
- A new tracker plugin based on OpenMPT.
- A new visualizer called 'Level Meter' has been added.
- An option to use SOCKS proxy has been added.
- New commands 'Next Album' and 'Previous Album'.
- The new tag editor in the Qt interface can edit multiple files at once.
- A preset window for the equalizer has been implemented in the Qt interface.
- The ability to locally download and save lyrics in the lyrics plugin has been added.
- The 'Blur Scope' and 'Spectrum Analyzer' visualizers have been ported to Qt.
- Soundfont selection for the MIDI plugin has been ported to Qt.
- New options for the JACK plugin.
- An option for infinite looping of PSF files has been added.
