The release of the open-source Bluetooth stack BlueZ 5.47, used in Linux and Chrome OS distributions, has occurred. This release is notable for the initial implementation of the BAP (Basic Audio Profile), which is part of the LE Audio (Low Energy Audio) standard and defines capabilities for managing the delivery of audio streams for devices using Bluetooth LE (Low Energy).
Support for audio reception and transmission in both normal and broadcast modes is provided. At the audio level, servers BAP support was included in the release of PipeWire 0.3.59 and can be utilized on either the main or peripheral device for bidirectional transmission of audio streams encoded using the LC3 (Low Complexity Communication Codec).
Additionally, in BlueZ 5.66, the implementation of the Bluetooth Mesh profile introduced support for MGMT (Management opcode) codes, which are used to facilitate collaboration with a single controller of the main Bluetooth background process and the new mesh handler, ensuring the operation of a mesh network where a specific device can be connected to the current system through a chain of connections via neighboring devices.
