CentOS Linux 8.2 Release (2004)

Introduced distribution release CentOS 2004, incorporating changes from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2. The distribution is fully binary compatible with RHEL 8.2, and the changes made to the packages generally involve rebranding and alterations in the artistic design. Builds CentOS 2004 are prepared (7 GB DVD and 550 MB netboot) for x86_64, Aarch64 (ARM64), and ppc64le architectures. The SRPM packages used to build the binary files and debuginfo are available through vault.centos.org.

In addition to new features introduced in RHEL 8.2, CentOS 2004 has modified the contents of 34 packages, including anaconda, dhcp, firefox, grub2, httpd, kernel, PackageKit, and yum. The changes made to the packages generally consist of rebranding and artistic design replacements. Packages specific to RHEL, such as redhat-*, insights-client, and subscription-manager-migration*, have been removed.

Known issues:

• When installing in VirtualBox, select the 'Server with GUI' mode and use VirtualBox version 6.1 or newer, or 6.0.14 or 5.2.34;
• In RHEL 8 the distribution of the plugin-container binary has been discontinued. support for certain hardware devices that may still be relevant is included. The solution could involve using the centosplus kernel and prepared packages from the ELRepo project ISO images with additional drivers;
• The automated procedure for adding the AppStream-Repo does not work when using boot.iso and installing via NFS;
• The installation media offers an incomplete component dotnet2.1, so if there's a need to install the dotnet package, it must be separately installed from the repository;
• PackageKit cannot determine local DNF/YUM variables.
