- The tools for launching Wayland applications in the Mir environment have increased the number of supported Wayland protocol extensions. By default, the wl_shell, xdg_wm_base, and xdg_shell_v6 extensions are now included. Additionally, zwlr_layer_shell_v1 and zxdg_output_v1 can be enabled separately. Work has begun on providing a means to define custom Wayland protocol extensions for graphical shells based on Mir. The first step in implementing this feature was the addition of the new package libmirwayland-dev, which allows the creation of a class for custom protocols and its registration in MirAL;
- The capabilities of the Mir Abstraction Layer (MirAL) have been extended, allowing users to abstract away direct calls to the Mir server and access the ABI through the libmiral library. The WaylandExtensions class has been enhanced to support the registration of custom Wayland extensions. A new class, MinimalWindowManager, has been added, implementing a default window management strategy (suitable for creating simple shells with floating windows, supporting Wayland clients for moving and resizing windows via touch gestures on touchscreen displays);
- Experimental support for X11 applications has been enhanced with the capability of launching the Xwayland component as needed.
