The release of the distribution "Alt Workstation K 10.1" has been published, supplied with a graphical environment based on KDE Plasma. Bootable and live images have been prepared for the x86_64 architecture (6.1 GB, 4.3 GB). The operating system is listed in the Unified Register of Russian Software and meets the requirements for transitioning to infrastructure based on domestic operating systems. Integrated into the main package are Russian root encryption certificates.
Like other operating systems from the "Alt" family, the distribution is equipped with the Alterator graphical interface for system configuration, allowing management of users and groups, viewing system logs, adding printers, configuring the network, and much more. The system works successfully in an Active Directory domain (domain authentication, access to file resources and print resources). Standard tools for performing office tasks are included — a web browser, an office suite with text processors and spreadsheets, as well as audio and video players and editors.
Only individuals, including sole proprietors, are allowed to freely use the downloaded version. Commercial and government organizations can download and test the distribution. For permanent use in corporate infrastructure, legal entities are required to purchase licenses or enter into written licensing agreements.
Key innovations:
- Support for system installation using the Ventoy utility has been added.
- A web kiosk mode has been added: the system can be installed in a limited-use variant, where the user has access only to the web browser.
- The installation image includes a live mode, allowing users to check the system's functionality prior to installation.
- The systemd-oomd memory tracking service has been included, which improves system behavior under low memory conditions. When applications are forcibly terminated by the oomd service, users receive a separate notification.
- During installation, the option to create Btrfs subvolumes is provided.
- An automatic disk partitioning profile for the Timeshift backup system has been added.
- When a failure is detected during the update in the Discover app center, system recovery is set to launch (a restore point is created using Btrfs before the update).
- Updated application versions: KDE Plasma 5.24, KDE Gear 22.04, KDE Frameworks 5.97, Mesa 22.0.
