The release of the Alt Workstation K 9.1 distribution is now available, equipped with a graphical environment based on KDE Plasma, designed for corporate workstations and personal use. The OS is included in the Unified Register of Russian Programs and Databases.
The builds are prepared for the x86_64 architecture in the form of an installation image (4.3 GB) and a Live image (3.1 GB). The product is supplied under a License Agreement, which allows free use by individuals, but legal entities are permitted for testing only; for usage, a commercial license must be purchased or a written license agreement entered into (reasons).
The distribution is equipped with a graphical interface for system configuration, including authentication (via Active Directory and LDAP/Kerberos), time installation and synchronization, user and group management, system log viewing, and printer addition. Proprietary NVIDIA drivers are included instead of the open-source nouveau.
New features compared to the eighth version include:
- significantly expanded hardware support, including NVMe on Intel RST and recently released NVIDIA graphics cards;
- OEM installation mode is possible with initial system configuration on first boot;
- improvement of integration into heterogeneous corporate IT infrastructure by expanding support for Microsoft Group Policies for users and machines running Linux;
- modules for group policies, user restrictions, disk quotas, access limitations to consoles/script languages/macros in applications, scheduled shutdown, compressed swap files using ZRAM/ZSWAP, selection of encryption algorithms in client settings, and server OpenVPN;
- default web browser is chromium-gost instead of firefox-esr;
- ability to sign a file with an electronic signature directly in the office suite;
- the educational programs section is removed;
- Skanlite is replaced with XSane, and KDE Telepathy with a set of programs of similar functionality;
- ability to use pre-prepared BTRFS subvolumes during installation;
- display of the list of scheduled operations when partitioning disks during installation;
- for EFI, the GRUB bootloader instead of rEFInd during system installation;
- default text mode editor — mcedit;
- Adobe Flash Player has been removed from the distribution;
- NVIDIA Optimus support through PRIME Render Offload (Bumblebee is no longer supported);
- the ability to run programs with specified resource usage limits;
- application center with support for Flatpak and Plasma extensions;
- added configuration utility for Grub bootloader, KDE Connect — a program for connecting the computer and Android smartphone, graphical utility for launching programs as another user with a specified priority;
- automatic setup of network printers with a universal driver;
- support for current GOST algorithms, including the ability to set user password hashes according to GOST and the ability to create secure VPN-tunnels with IP packet header integrity control according to GOST;
- improved application translations;
- enhanced functionality of touchscreen devices;
- display of the graphical LUKS password prompt at system startup has been implemented;
- UUID is preserved when formatting the SWAP partition during installation.
