The release of the ALT Server 11.0 distribution, built on the ALT 11 platform, has taken place. The distribution is provided under a Licensing Agreement allowing private individuals to use it freely. Commercial and government organizations can download and test the distribution, but for permanent use in corporate infrastructure, legal entities need to purchase licenses or enter into written licensing agreements. Installation images are prepared for x86_64 and AArch64 architectures.
In the new release:
- System components updated: Linux kernel 6.12, Glibc 2.38, GCC 13, systemd 255.
- Server applications updated: BIND 9.18, Kea 2.7, NGINX 1.26, Squid 7.0, CUPS 2.4, Postfix 3.8, Dovecot 2.3, Samba 4.20, FreeIPA 4.12, Zabbix 7.0, Podman 5.4, Docker 27.1, Kubernetes 1.31.
- Developer packages updated: MariaDB 10.11, PostgreSQL 17.5, PHP 8.4.
- The distribution now supports the distribution of multiple products (editions) within a single distribution. This release includes the 'ALT Server' and 'ALT Domain' editions. ALT Server is a classic server distribution suitable for file servers, web servers, mail servers, DBMS, etc. ALT Domain is a platform for centralized management of corporate infrastructure, including a directory service based on Samba AD, accompanying services (Bind, Kea, etc.), a set of graphic administration tools (ADMC), and group policy management (GPUI).
- The AltInstaller (installer and configurator) has been switched to use the D-Bus system bus. The steps in the installer have been redesigned. By default, 'ALT Server' is now installed in minimal (console) mode. The graphical interface installation mode has been switched from the MATE desktop environment to GNOME.
- For network configuration in console mode, etcnet is used, while NetworkManager is employed in graphical mode. Optionally, systemd-networkd is available.
- Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) has been updated to branch 3.3, which now allows backups on removable media and adds support for push synchronization.
- An application 'ALT Components' has been added for automated installation of network services such as web server, file server and isolated container system. Components are configured via a graphical interface or in console mode.
- The components for using isolated containers have been transferred from the 'Alt Virtualization' distribution to 'Alt Server': Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, and Linux Container. Tools for the complete cycle of working with containers are offered — from development (Buildah) to infrastructure deployment (Kubernetes via CRI-O).
