The release of the Armbian 22.05 Linux distribution has been published, providing a compact system environment for various single-board computers based on ARM processors, including different models of Raspberry Pi, Odroid, Orange Pi, Banana Pi, Helios64, pine64, Nanopi, and Cubieboard based on Allwinner, Amlogic, Actionsemi, Freescale / NXP, Marvell Armada, Rockchip, Radxa, and Samsung Exynos processors.
The builds utilize package repositories from Debian and Ubuntu, but the environment is fully rebuilt using its own build system, incorporating optimizations to reduce size, increase performance, and implement additional security mechanisms. For example, the /var/log partition is mounted using zram and stored in RAM in a compressed form, with data being flushed to storage once a day or on shutdown. The /tmp partition is mounted using tmpfs. The project supports over 30 variations of the Linux kernel for different ARM and ARM64 platforms.
Release Features:
- Support for DevTerm A06, Orange Pi R1+ LTS, Radxa Rock 3A, and Radxa Zero boards has been added.
- Support work for ESPRESSObin and Radxa Rock Pi 4 boards has been initiated.
- Packages have been synchronized with Debian 11 repositories. Alternative builds based on the upcoming Ubuntu 22.10 release have been prepared.
- Additional testing and stability improvements have been conducted for various builds.
