The release of Bodhi Linux 6.0 has been announced, featuring the Moksha desktop environment. Moksha is developed as a fork of the Enlightenment 17 (E17) codebase, created to continue the development of Enlightenment as a lightweight desktop due to disagreements with the project's development policy, the expansion of the Enlightenment 19 (E19) environment, and a decline in the stability of the codebase. Three installation images are available for download: a standard version (872 MB), one with additional drivers (877 MB), and an extended version with a supplementary set of applications (1.7 GB).
In the new version:
- The transition to the Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS package base has been completed (the previous release used Ubuntu 18.04).
- The appearance theme, login screen, and boot splash have been significantly updated.
- Animated wallpapers have been added to the desktop.
- Efforts have been made to improve support for languages other than English in the distribution.
- The GNOME Language Tool spell-checking utility is enabled by default.
- The PcManFm file manager has been replaced with a customized version of Thunar, allowing configuration through the context menu of desktop background images.
- The Leafpad application has resolved the issue with file truncation.
- In ePhoto, uploading images from locations other than the home directory is now supported.
- By default, the installation of snap format packages is disabled.
- A new notification indicator has been added to the bottom panel, allowing access to notification history.
- By default, the Chromium web browser is used instead of Firefox (the traditional package is provided, not the snap from Canonical).
- The apturl-elm utility has been replaced with a custom script that uses policy-kit and synaptic.
