The release of the Linux distribution Clonezilla Live 2.8.0 is available, designed for quick disk cloning (only the used blocks are copied). The tasks performed by the distribution are similar to the proprietary product Norton Ghost. The size of the ISO image of the distribution is 325 MB (i686, amd64).
The distribution is based on Debian GNU/Linux and utilizes code from projects such as DRBL, Partition Image, ntfsclone, partclone, and udpcast. Booting from CD/DVD, USB Flash, and over the network (PXE) is possible. LVM2 and file systems ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, jfs, btrfs, f2fs, nilfs2, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, HFS+, UFS, minix, VMFS3, and VMFS5 (VMware ESX) are supported. A mass cloning mode over the network is available, including traffic transmission in multicast mode, allowing simultaneous cloning of the source disk to a large number of client machines. Cloning from one disk to another, as well as creating backups via saving a disk image to a file, is possible. Cloning can occur at the level of entire disks or individual partitions.
In the new version:
- Synchronization with the Debian Sid package repository has been completed as of November 17.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.14 (previously 5.10). The Partclone 0.3.18 and ezio 1.2.0 packages have been updated.
- A caching mechanism has been implemented to speed up storage scanning.
- The ocs-live-netcfg package has been enhanced to support wireless network configuration using the nmtui utility or by passing the ocs_nic_type parameter at boot.
- The update-efi-nvram-boot-entry now references saved nvram data (efi-nvram.dat) and adds support for handling multiple boot entries.
- The console interface now allows the use of reserved names in disk image titles.
