Desktop components and applications are developed using C/C++ languages, but the interface is formed using HTML5 technologies with the Chromium web engine. A key feature of the Deepin desktop is a panel that supports multiple work modes. In classic mode, there is a clearer separation of open windows and applications available for launch, with a system tray area displayed. The efficient mode is somewhat reminiscent of Unity, mixing indicators of running programs, favorite applications, and control applets (volume/brightness settings, connected drives, clock, network status, etc.). The application launcher interface is displayed in full-screen and offers two modes — viewing favorite applications and browsing the catalog of installed programs.
Key innovations:
- As the default window manager instead of (a fork of Elementary ) is utilized (a version of kwin adapted for Deepin), allowing for reduced memory consumption and improved rendering performance;
- An ‘Auto merge’ feature has been added for automatically sorting similar types of files into folders on the desktop (videos, documents, music, applications, and images are grouped into different folders);
- Support for cyclic wallpaper changes has been implemented in the form of a slideshow with the ability to set the interval between image changes;
- A separate sound effects settings section has been added, allowing selective disabling or enabling of sound effects for various operations (for example, when displaying notifications or shutting down);
- An option has been added to the panel to go to sleep mode by right-clicking on the shutdown icon, with the ability to disable the trash plugin, along with the addition of a network connection installation indicator;
- In the session manager, support for screen unlocking with simultaneous password entry and fingerprint verification has been added;
- The file manager now includes an advanced search interface, a redesigned address bar, options for copying the path to the clipboard and editing the path in the address bar, and the Ctrl+C keyboard shortcut works in preview mode.
- In the Deepin Editor, the status bar now displays the current character number and supports editing two documents with a split-screen view.
