DilOS — an Illumos-based platform with a Debian package manager (dpkg + apt)
DilOS has an MIT license.
DilOS will focus on server-side virtualization, such as Xen (dilos-xen3.4-dom0 is currently available), zones, and tools for use in small businesses and by home users (Example: as a file server with a torrent client with a WEB GUI, apache + mysql / postgresql + php for development, DLNA media server for Smart TV or mobile device with hosting for videos and music, etc.).
You can use DilOS as a base platform for your own distribution — you can create your own APT repository with DEB packages and create your own ISO.
You can install DilOS on a Virtual Machine (e.g., Xen, VMware, VBox, etc.) or on bare metal with a text console and access via SSH.
DilOS includes: dilos-userland + dilos-illumos-gate + converted binary files into DEB packages from OpenIndiana (oi-experimental).
dilos-userland includes packages with gcc builds instead of some packages with SunStudio builds. This userland contains patches from userland-gate (Oracle) and includes additional packages migrated from the main Debian branch. Package builds are aimed at gcc builds.
Dilos-Illumos is based on Illumos-Gate with some modifications: updated build system for creating DEB packages via builds, updated BEADM to support all installed zones, integrated LIBM, removed dependencies from Python24 and default use of Python27, Perl-516 by default, and other changes not included in Illumos-Gate.
Currently, not all packages have been built on DilOS for the development environment.
Plans: to have all packages in dilos-userland with gcc builds for the userland development environment and illumos.
DilOS contains modified APT and DPKG tools for better operation with zones and ZFS features.

We have 7 years with DilOS!
Version 2.0.2 has been released.
To upgrade to the latest version, you need to do:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y os-upgrade
sudo os-upgrade -y
The new version will be installed on a new BE, and you can reboot to the new version.

Intel and SPARC builds were done with gcc-6.
Many updates:
- ZFS updates from ZFSonLinux (ZoL) (feature list https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CFapSYxA5QRFYy5k6ge3FutU7zbAWbaeGN2nKVXgxCI/edit?pli=1#gid=0)
- PAM: transitioned to using libpam0g with the corresponding tools (useradd, usermod, etc.)
- external package SAMBA 4.9.5 as a replacement for smb support in dilos-illumos
- MIT KRB5 added, but the service needs to be configured and the corresponding tools fixed (welcome volunteers)
- GO LANG 1.13.3
- GHC 8.4.4
- and many other updates of user packages from Debian Upstream
About SPARC.
it takes time to try to prepare a bootable ISO with all the latest fixes and an installer for the fixes.
it will be available with all updates a bit later.
We ported many components from the Debian user space as build dependencies, but we need to work with services and configurations.
DilOS is an open-source platform, and you can receive error messages, feedback, updates, and investments 🙂
If you need packages that are not yet in DilOS, you have 2 options:
- try to port your own packages and upstream them to the DilOS repository
- request a list of packages with sponsorship.
