The release of the MiniOS Flux 5.1 distribution, which runs directly from a USB drive, has been announced. MiniOS Flux is a minimalist edition with the Fluxbox window manager, inspired by the Slax distribution. The distribution uses a modular architecture, allowing for the creation of specialized configurations tailored to specific tasks.
The release is available in compact images based on various versions of Debian, supporting amd64 and i386 architectures:
- Debian 10 Buster (amd64 491 MB, i386 492 MB).
- Debian 11 Bullseye (amd64 508 MB, i386 510 MB).
- Debian 12 Bookworm (amd64 589 MB, i386 581 MB).
The most important changes in version 5.1.0:
- The SYSLINUX menu has been restored for BIOS booting with multilingual support and built-in documentation in all supported languages (English, German, Spanish, French, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian). Compatibility issues with older hardware have been resolved.
- Improvements to persistent storage:
- Support for size measurement units for the 'perchsize' parameter has been added: MB, GB, TB (for example, 'perchsize=4GB' or 'perchsize=1T');
- The maximum size of DynFileFS has been set to 1 TB to prevent excessive disk space allocation;
- Enhanced messages when working with persistent storage mode, merged file systems, and version/revision discrepancies.
- Normal booting has been restored in the Ventoy environment with the addition of the necessary symbolic links for compatibility.
- Conditional loading of fonts in GRUB has been optimized based on the lockdown status.
- User utilities have been updated:
- MiniOS Installer – support for multilingual SYSLINUX configurations has been added, the logic for detecting and installing bootloaders has been improved, and translations into French and Portuguese (Portugal) have been included;
- MiniOS Tools – automatic detection of the bootloader type in 'sb2iso' has been improved, support for bash autocompletion for 'dir2sb', 'rmsbdir', 'savechanges', and 'sb2dir' has been added;
- MiniOS Kernel Manager – multilingual support has been expanded;
- Flux Tools – support for translations via gettext has been added, and Session Manager and Kernel Manager have been integrated.
- Compatibility of built-in utilities with older versions of bash has been improved (the requirement has been lowered to version 4.4).
