The release of the lightweight distribution MX Linux 21.1 has occurred, created through the collaboration of communities formed around the antiX and MEPIS projects. This release is based on the Debian package base with enhancements from the antiX project and packages from its own repository. The distribution uses the sysVinit initialization system and its own tools for system configuration and deployment. Bootable 32-bit and 64-bit builds are available, with a size of 1.9 GB (x86_64, i386) featuring the Xfce desktop environment, as well as 64-bit builds with the KDE desktop environment.
In the new release, synchronization with the Debian 11.3 package base has been implemented. Application versions have been updated. The Linux kernel has been upgraded to version 5.16. The Disk-manager disk management program has returned to the core set. The mx-samba-config utility has been added for configuring access to file storage using samba/cifs. Installer performance has been improved.
