The release of the lightweight MX Linux 21.3 distribution has been published, created as a result of the collaboration of communities formed around the antiX and MEPIS projects. The release is based on a Debian package base with enhancements from the antiX project and packages from its own repository. The distribution uses the sysVinit initialization system and its own tools for configuring and deploying the system. 32-bit and 64-bit builds (1.8 GB, x86_64, i386) with the Xfce desktop are available for download, as well as 64-bit builds (2.4 GB) with the KDE desktop and minimalist builds (1.6 GB) with the fluxbox window manager.
In the new release:
- Synchronization with the Debian 11.6 package base has been completed. Application versions have been updated.
- The builds with extended hardware support (AHS) and the KDE desktop feature the Linux 6.0 kernel (the builds with Xfce and Fluxbox use the 5.10 kernel).
- The Xfce desktop environment has been updated to version 4.18.
- The builds with the Fluxbox window manager include the new mx-rofi-manager utility for managing Rofi configuration.
- In the Xfce and Fluxbox builds, the deb-installer utility is used instead of gdebi for installing deb packages.
- The menu editor menulibre has been included, replacing mx-menu-editor.
