The release of the lightweight distribution MX Linux 23.3 has been published, developed through the collaboration of communities formed around the antiX and MEPIS projects. This release is based on the Debian package base with improvements from the antiX project and packages from its own repository. The distribution uses the sysVinit initialization system and custom tools for system configuration and deployment. Both 32-bit and 64-bit builds (x86_64, i386) with the Xfce desktop (2.1 GB) are available for download, as well as 64-bit builds with the KDE desktop (2.6 GB) and builds (1.7 GB) with the Fluxbox window manager.
In the new release:
- Synchronization with the Debian 12.5 package base has been completed. Application versions have been updated. As in previous releases, the sysVinit initialization system continues to be used by default, while systemd can be installed as an option. The Linux kernel package has been updated to version 6.1.90.
- The base installation includes meta-packages build-essential, which include a compiler and tools for developers that can be used in MX Linux for compiling and building drivers.
- In OEM mode of the installer, users can choose the system language before the configuration stage begins (the configurator will be immediately displayed in the selected language).
- Multimedia is enabled by default. server Pipewire 1.0.
- The locale management utilities have been updated to include a function for removing all manual variants in languages other than the one set as default in the system.
- The live-remaster feature now includes an option to compress images using the zstd algorithm.
- The ability to use systemd in live builds has been provided by specifying the boot parameter 'init=/lib/systemd/systemd'.
