The release of the lightweight distribution MX Linux 25.1 has been published, created as a result of collaborative work among communities formed around the antiX and MEPIS projects. The release is based on the Debian package base with enhancements from the antiX project and packages from its own repository. The distribution allows the choice between the sysVinit and systemd initialization systems. It comes with its own tools for system configuration and deployment. Available for download are 64-bit builds (x86_64) with the Xfce desktop (2.8 GB), as well as builds with the KDE desktop (3.3 GB) and builds (2.3 GB) with the Fluxbox window manager.
In the new release:
- Synchronization with the Debian 13.3 package base has been achieved. The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.12.
- Builds with extended hardware support (AHS) have been updated, which come with Xfce, kernel 6.18 with patches from the liquorix project, and Mesa 25.3.3.
- The creation of hybrid ISO images has resumed, where the system initialization systems systemd and sysVinit are available for selection. In the Live builds, the user can choose the desired initialization system from the boot menu.
