The release of the lightweight MX Linux 25.2 distribution has been published, created through the collaborative efforts of communities formed around the antiX and MEPIS projects. This release is based on the Debian package base, enhanced by the antiX project and packages from its own repository. Users can choose between sysVinit and systemd initialization systems. It comes with its own tools for system configuration and deployment. 64-bit builds (x86_64) with the Xfce desktop (3 GB) are available for download, as well as builds with the KDE desktop (3.6 GB) and builds (2.4 GB) with the Fluxbox window manager.
In the new release:
- The MX Installer (gazelle-installer) now includes a fully functional text interface option (minstall —tui), allowing installation management without switching to graphical mode. Systemd units have been provided for the oobe/oem mode used in the edition for Raspberry Pi boards.
- Synchronization with the Debian 13.5 package base has been completed. The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.12.90.
- The hardware support extended (AHS) builds have been updated, shipping with Xfce, kernel 7.0 with patches from the liquorix project, and Mesa 26.0.1.
- The booting system in Live mode has been redesigned. Initial setup functions have been extracted from the rc.local script. The live-kernel-updater application has been improved, now allowing the simultaneous installation of multiple kernels. When installing from the uc-tool-mx repository, the MX Snapshot and live-kernel-updater utilities now support live systems with microcode (microcode-enabled).
